About Musikverein Volkertshausen

The Musikverein Volkertshausen is a music club from a village located in the south of Germany near the Lake of Constance. It is a concert/wind band and is a performing ensemble consisting of several members of the woodwind, brass and percussion instrument family.  The Band have a varied repertoire of music from classical items and folk music to marches and polkas.

Today there are altogether 65 amateur performers in the Musikverein Volkertshausen divided into 3 groups. The adult band with 42 musicians, the young band with 22 players and the salon orchestra with 10 musicians. A further 15 boys and girls have started training on their instruments as beginners.

The Musikverein Volkertshausen was founded in 1857 by 20 inhabitants of the village Volkertshausen. Volkertshausen was an aspiring village owing to the construction of a factory which was producing cotton thread as well as cotton drapery. Because of this industry a lot of people entered Volkertshausen, resulting in the birth of the Musikverein Volkertshausen.

In 2007 the Musikverein Volkertshausen celebrated its 150th anniversary. The event was started with a formal official banquet from the community lead by the mayor of the village. During June there was a big anniversary celebration over three days in the village with more than a thousand visitors. The highlight was a great parade through the village on Sunday afternoon. More than 20 historic groups and musician groups attended the marching. The historic groups represented different ages during the 150 years history. The next highlight during the year was indeed the visit of the Bratton Silver Band from Bratton. A fantastic joint concert in the concert hall „Alte Kirche“ made the visit perfect.

The musicians from the Musikverein are very proud to be invited by the Bratton Silver Band to its 150th anniversary and are looking forward, with their conductor Josef Watz, to provide the audience with a cross section of their music.

MASSED BAND CONCERT

Here is some of the feedback received with regards to this weekend:

"Wow! What a superb concert yesterday. you must all be very proud of your performances both as BSB and joint with The Cory Band. Best of all, you all looked as if you were thoroughly enjoying yourselves and that was amply communicated to the audience".

"What a wonderful Saturday and Sunday my wife and I had listening to both bands. The obvious hard work paid off with a wonderful sound. With the world ranking number one band to play with you was very magnanimous and says a lot for the friendship in banding. The whole concert was excellent and clearly everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. Thank you for all that careful planning and rehearsals. I have been playing for many years and been at the Royal Albert Hall many times - your concert was amongst the very best".

"Congratulations on your performance at the concert. I attended your concert with friends who play with several bands. We were all very impressed by the performances and the choice of programme".

"Wow ... what an experience - something we will never forget".
